This Privacy Policy explains how FaveSift (“FaveSift,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and retains personal information when you visit favesift.com, subscribe to our newsletter, follow links to retailers, or otherwise interact with our website (the “Site”). It also explains the privacy choices and rights available to you.

FaveSift is a United States-focused, general-audience gift-guide website. It is not directed to children under 13. We do not operate user accounts, process payments, or collect payment-card information on the Site.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

• Newsletter information. If you subscribe, we collect your email address and subscription status.
• Communications. If you contact us, we collect the information contained in your message, your email address, and any other information you choose to provide.
• Privacy requests. If you submit a privacy request, we collect the information needed to understand, verify, and respond to that request.

Information collected automatically

• Device and network information. Internet Protocol address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, language, and similar technical information. Google Analytics uses an IP address at collection time to derive approximate location and routing information; Google states that the IP address is discarded before it is logged in Google Analytics.
• Usage information. Pages viewed, referring page or website, links and buttons selected, timestamps, approximate city or region, and interactions with Site features.
• Consent information. Your accepted or rejected privacy choice and signals sent by your browser, including Global Privacy Control where supported.
• Security and diagnostic information. Server logs, request information, error records, and similar data used to operate, troubleshoot, and protect the Site.

We do not intentionally collect government identifiers, precise geolocation, financial account credentials, health information, biometric information, or other sensitive personal information through the Site. Please do not send sensitive personal information to us.

2. Cookies, local storage, and analytics

Privacy-choice storage

FaveSift stores your privacy choice under favesift-cookie-consent-v1 in first-party browser storage and a first-party SameSite cookie. The value is “accepted” or “rejected.” It is designed to remain for up to one year unless you change your choice, clear your browser data, or your browser removes it sooner. This storage is necessary to remember your selection.

Google Analytics 4 and Consent Mode

We use Google Analytics 4 (“GA4”) to understand Site traffic and improve our content. Before you make a choice, and after you reject non-essential tracking, Google Consent Mode keeps analytics and advertising storage denied. GA4 may still send cookieless measurement signals containing limited page, device, approximate-location, and consent information for aggregate reporting and modeling. These cookieless signals are not the same as having no data sent to Google.

If you select “Accept all,” GA4 may use first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_ to distinguish browsers and sessions. Google documents a default expiration of up to two years, although browser limits or our configuration may shorten that period. With consent, we may also use Google Signals and GA4 advertising features. Those features can associate Site activity with information from a visitor’s signed-in Google account when Google’s requirements are met and the visitor has enabled Ads Personalization. We do not send newsletter email addresses or other directly identifying form data to GA4.

Vercel Web Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate traffic statistics. Vercel states that this service does not use cookies, stores anonymized data, and uses a request-derived hash that is reset after 24 hours rather than an identifier that follows a visitor across websites or days. Data points may include the page, filtered query information, referrer, approximate location, browser, operating system, and device type. Learn more in Vercel’s Web Analytics privacy documentation.

Your analytics choices

• Use “Accept all” or “Reject non-essential” in the privacy notice.
• Select “Privacy choices” in the footer at any time to change your stored selection.
• Use browser settings to block or delete cookies and local storage. Blocking storage may prevent the Site from remembering your choice.
• Use Google’s browser add-on or Google account controls to limit Google Analytics or advertising personalization.

Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (“GPC”) signal, FaveSift treats that signal as an opt-out of optional analytics storage, advertising storage, targeted advertising, and covered sale or sharing for that browser. GPC takes priority over a stored “accepted” value. Cookieless GA4 measurement and aggregate Vercel Web Analytics may continue because they are not used by FaveSift for targeted advertising.

Do Not Track. Because there is no generally accepted technical standard for the older “Do Not Track” signal, the Site does not respond to that signal. We do respond to GPC as described above.

3. How we use personal information

• Operate, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the Site.
• Deliver and manage newsletter subscriptions.
• Understand aggregate audience activity and improve guides, navigation, and Site performance.
• Measure the effectiveness of content and, after consent, advertising-related features.
• Respond to messages and privacy requests.
• Detect misuse, protect our rights and users, comply with law, and enforce applicable terms.
• Create aggregated or deidentified statistics that are not reasonably linked to an individual.

4. How we disclose personal information

We may disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients for the purposes described in this Policy:

• Service providers. Providers that support hosting, infrastructure, security, analytics, and email subscription management, including Google, Vercel, and Resend. Resend receives subscriber email addresses so it can maintain our newsletter contact list. You can review Resend’s Privacy Policy.
• Professional advisers. Lawyers, accountants, auditors, insurers, and similar advisers when reasonably necessary.
• Legal and safety recipients. Government authorities, courts, or other parties when disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, and security.
• Business transaction recipients. Parties involved in a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or transfer of all or part of the Site, subject to appropriate safeguards.
• At your direction. Other recipients when you ask us to make a disclosure or otherwise consent to it.

Retailer and affiliate links

FaveSift contains links to third-party retailers, including Amazon. When you select a retailer link, the retailer receives information your browser ordinarily sends, such as your IP address, browser information, the referring page, and any affiliate identifier included in the link. The retailer independently controls its website, cookies, checkout, and privacy practices. FaveSift does not receive your retailer account credentials or payment-card information. We may receive commission and aggregate transaction reports without information that directly identifies the purchaser. Review the retailer’s privacy notice before providing information or making a purchase.

5. Sale, sharing, and targeted advertising

FaveSift does not sell personal information for money. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct-marketing lists.

After you select “Accept all,” our disclosure of identifiers and internet activity to Google for Google Signals or advertising features may be considered “sharing,” a “sale,” or processing for targeted advertising under some state privacy laws, even though no money is exchanged. You can opt out by selecting “Reject non-essential,” reopening “Privacy choices” in the footer, or enabling GPC. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

6. Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing the Site, maintaining accurate records, honoring opt-outs, resolving disputes, protecting security, and meeting legal obligations. The retention period depends on the type of information and the reason we use it:

• Privacy-choice storage is designed to expire after one year unless changed or removed sooner.
• Newsletter email addresses are retained while a subscription remains active. After an unsubscribe or deletion request, we may keep a minimal suppression record as necessary to honor the choice and comply with law.
• Analytics data is retained according to the controls and reporting needs configured with Google and Vercel. We use it only as long as reasonably needed to measure trends and improve the Site.
• Security logs and communications are retained for the period reasonably needed to investigate issues, respond, and protect the Site.

We may retain aggregated or deidentified information for longer when it cannot reasonably be linked to you. We may also retain information when required by law, subject to a legal hold, or needed to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

7. Your United States privacy rights

Depending on your state of residence and whether a law applies to FaveSift, you may have the right to:

• Confirm whether we process your personal information and obtain access to it.
• Correct inaccurate personal information.
• Delete personal information, subject to legal exceptions.
• Receive a portable copy of personal information you provided.
• Opt out of covered sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or qualifying profiling.
• Limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information, where applicable.
• Receive equal service and not be discriminated against for exercising a privacy right.
• Appeal a decision we make about your request, where applicable.

Some comprehensive state privacy laws apply only after a business reaches specified revenue or data-volume thresholds. Whether or not a particular statute applies, you may contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to honor appropriate requests.

How to submit a request

Email contact@favesift.com with the subject line “Privacy Request” and describe the right you want to exercise. To appeal a prior decision, use the subject line “Privacy Appeal.” We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify that the request concerns you. We will use verification information only to process the request. If we cannot verify a request, an exception applies, or fulfilling it would adversely affect another person’s rights, we may limit or deny the request and explain our decision as required by law.

You may use an authorized agent where applicable. We may request proof of the agent’s authority and may ask you to verify your identity directly. You may also use “Privacy choices” or GPC for browser-based opt-outs without submitting an email request.

8. Newsletter choices

You may unsubscribe from marketing email at any time by using the unsubscribe mechanism in the message or emailing contact@favesift.com. We may still send non-marketing responses that you request. FaveSift will not begin commercial newsletter distribution until each message can include the sender identification, valid physical postal address, and unsubscribe mechanism required by United States law.

9. Children’s privacy

The Site is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. Children under 13 should not subscribe to the newsletter, submit privacy requests on their own, or otherwise provide personal information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or legal guardian and believe a child under 13 provided personal information to FaveSift, email contact@favesift.com so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate.

10. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No internet transmission, storage system, or security measure is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. United States processing and external sites

FaveSift is intended for the United States market. Personal information may be processed in the United States and other locations where our service providers operate. The Site may link to websites that we do not control. This Policy does not govern those external websites, and we are not responsible for their privacy or security practices.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the Site, our practices, service providers, or legal requirements. We will post the revised Policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how we use previously collected personal information, we will provide additional notice or request consent when required by law.
